2023 is going to be a very strong year for virtual assistants. It’s certainly a strong time for you to set up your own virtual assistant business. 

Unlike a lot of other online businesses, setting up a VA business doesn’t take much.

You’ll just need to take care of a few things before you get started.

1. Pick the Niche and Services You’ll Be Offering

There are lots of different services you can offer as a virtual assistant across any niche you want. 

Figuring out a niche and service (s) is crucial if you want to start up a business. 

Think about what you’re already good at and which niches or industries you have experience in.

It’s good to center your business around your strengths, especially in the beginning.

This could be simple email admin or it could be as advanced as business management. There’s no one-way-path into this business, a large part of it depends on you.

2. Write a Business Plan

Every business that is serious about making money should have a business plan.

A plan will help keep you focused as well as figuring out what services you offer, at what price, and what your short, medium, and long-term goals for the business are.

You may want to always be a one-man band performing VA work for some extra pocket money or you may be looking to scale to having multiple employees and eventually sell the company on.

It’s entirely up to you, but you won’t know what you’re doing without a business plan.

3. Take Care Of Business Admin

You can’t expect to be trusted to take care of other businesses if you haven’t taken care of your own. 

When setting up a virtual assistant business you should take care of the admin stuff sooner rather than later. 

This means registering your business with the appropriate people. It also means creating contracts that you can use with clients to keep things legitimate and ensure no arguments can be made over money.

4. Invest In The Tools You Need

This is usually best done right at the start of your company being formed, but it’s understandable if you don’t have the financial wiggle room in the beginning.

At the earliest opportunity, you should invest in tools you’ll need. 

Think software for invoicing, or performing graphics work, whatever software you need to perform the services you’ve sold to your clients. 

A good tool set is the difference between a one-man band and a fully legitimate company, even if it only has you as an employee.
